Lights.com—Amber Warning Lights
Amber lights are used in a number of ways in traffic and on vehicles. These lights are also used by construction companies and workers. Just as the amber traffic light warns drivers to slow down because the signal will soon change, amber lights are used on vehicles to warn drivers to use caution.
Traffic and Amber Warning Lights
Almost everyone is familiar with the yellow light of a traffic stop light. This light is used as a warning for drivers to help keep them aware of the change in traffic. The blinking yellow light warns drivers to use caution when going through an intersection; traffic may be coming from another direction. Generally, the amber light means to move slowly.
School buses use amber warning lights to warn followers and oncoming traffic that the bus will soon be stopping. According to law, drivers on both sides of the street must stop when a school bus has its stop sign extended (with red flashing lights). The amber light is used to tell traffic that they will soon need to stop.
Construction workers also employ the amber warning light. This light is used in this instance to warn traffic of an upcoming slow down because of construction on or near the road ways. It is also used to advise drivers to move slowly and with caution through the area of construction.
